Mobile Phone Policy

Jesus College Policy for mobile devices

The document is modified from University Policy on mobile devices and will be updated when University policy changes. Exceptions can be added if required.


The use of phones and tablets – whether personal or College owned - is permitted for all Jesus College data providing that devices are:

  • Authorised for use by the IT Department;
  • Protected from unauthorised access by at least a 4-digit PIN or a passphrase;
  • Configured to ensure they automatically lock after a period of inactivity;
  • Configured in such a way that they can be remotely wiped in the event of loss;
  • Encrypted;
  • Only installed with trustworthy applications from reputable sources;
  • Configured to receive software updates from the manufacturer and other 3rd parties and updates are installed within one week of being released.

Jesus College data must not be stored or accessed on mobile devices that are not authorized and that do not meet the above requirements.


The IT Department is responsible for:

  • The secure use of mobile devices in College
  • Authorising devices that can be used within College
  • Communicating this directive to all College Staff and Students
  • Identifying, documenting and communicating any exceptions

Users are responsible for:

  • Keeping devices configured as per the requirements in this document
  • Informing the IT department and their line manger if devices are lost or stolen


The following devices are currently authorised for use with Jesus College data:

  • iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, SE, 6, 6 Plus, 7 and 7 Plus;
  • iPad Mini 2, 3 and 4;
  • iPad 4th Generation;
  • iPad Air and Air 2;
  • iPad Pro;
  • Google Nexus 5X, 6P, Pixel and Pixel XL;
  • Lumia 650, 950 and 950 XL
